  Poth has said he's suffered several mental breakdowns and has had his share of "required" hospitalizations.  At one point his desire to paint during those stays was so strong that he would put acrylics on the disposable shower mats (left). This page includes images painted during those periods.  Several include text in the body of the work metioning morphine drips, electroshock therapy and various mental sedatives show their influences in several of them.
We poured through a few stacks of images, "Well you said you wanted to see what I'd been up to these last few years," he said to me grinning.  A few choice images were quickly snapped up by a gallery owner from Maine who specializes in self-taught naive. We both agreed that we had both indeed stumbled upon a rare find.
